Prisoners to take driving theory tests in their cells

23rd March 2024

Inmates will be able to take driving theory courses on a laptop in their cells, from next week.

In a drive to get prisoners ready for the workforce, it's envisaged that the move will help fill delivery driver vacancies and assist ex-inmates in getting a job, despite their background.

Specially designed laptops, preloaded with tests created by the Driving Vehicle Standards Agency, will be available to those that sign up to the course. It's hoped that the driving theory app might encourage those prisoners who opt to work during their sentence, instead of take part in education, change their mind.
